Worth making a party of it! I was in France when they won the World Cup and it seemed a little muted. They might regret that in a generation or two's time when the chance still hasn't come around again. Being English, I know whereof I speak.

To be fair I was more in rugby country when it happened, so there's that.

Spain likewise, but again I was in a fairly separatist-leaning bit of Catalonia, so there was plenty of Anyone But Spain sentiment, despite the Barça squad's big involvement.

Then again, as Bertolt Brecht wrote:

Unhappy the land that has no heroes? No. Unhappy the land that has need of heroes.
