Yeah. The read ratio is based on an assumption that Medium users are serious adults with an interest in medium- (hence the name...) and long-form textual content. That they will honestly give each story a chance to hook them in.
But TikTokkers are of a swipe left generation/mindset. They are used to disposing of hundreds of potential gobbets of media content in a matter of minutes. And each time they do, the writer is penalised through no fault of their own.
This is my perception, based on what (little) I have learned about how Medium and social media in general function. I may be barking up the wrong tree (though I strongly believe there is a basis of truth in my interpretation). But if I am wrong, why won't the Medium staffers I have raised this point with explain why that's not the case?
All I've seen so far is 'Ooh! Look at all these new users! Isn't it great? Of course, they interact and engage with content in a different way, but that's fine. No problem - nothing to see here, regular users! As you were!'
