Yes, I think this is the question: are there more related things that we don't spot, and in fact reveal some pattern. Or in fact loads more unrelated things that we disregard because we only focus on the coincidences that stand out, and are biased towards given them meaning.

The other day at the corner shop my goods (all stuff priced in cents, not round euros, and including some onions charged by weight for proper randomisation) came to €10.00. And you think 'wow, that's weird!'.

But it's no weirder than it being exactly 9.67, or 10.16.

I suppose it's when you then get more instances of the same number repeating itself that you start really taking notice.

Here's another thing - I noticed after writing this that it was my 87th piece on Medium, 87 being the unlucky number for Australian cricketers (who just happen to be batting on the final day of the Ashes series today, miserable English weather permitting), because it's 13 short of 100.
